Junko is a 5’5” tall, 148 pound female human-fox hybrid from the 4th generation JANUS product line. Junko appears as a normal JANUS hybrid with long silver hair with bright white streaks over her right eye. Her tail is short, the top quarter having been cut off during a training mistake[1], and has the same silver color as her hair with a single bright streak running from base to tip. Her hair is softer and smoother than that of other Products with a noticeable glossy finish, all thanks to the diligent care of her many house servants. Junko’s eyes are dull grey, just as devoid of color as they are of emotion.
Junko’s short stature and small frame conceal an extraordinarily muscular and toned body. Constant training has left her battered, bruised, and covered in scars at various stages of healing. But, with little more than cloth bandages being allowed as treatment her scars never fully heal. The only scar to appear on her face is a horizontal scar running from the bridge of her nose to underneath her right eye[2]. With public image being of utmost concern, the Praetor is careful never to damage any part that would taint her appearance. Junko wears a chest binder to maintain her figure, causing her great discomfort at all times.
Junko typically wears yukata, kimono, or other traditional clothing of the District. These items are extravagant works of art, decorated with embroidery, paintwork, and other adornments. Her wardrobe contains very little of what would be considered “casual wear”, with even the most simple items being made from the finest materials. Even her non-ceremonial armor is expertly engraved and inlaid with precious metals, with the ceremonial variety being composed almost entirely of rare elements like gold, silver, platinum, and titanium.
Born a JANUS 4 hybrid, JJ was designed to command a legion of ACE series combat drones during the latter half of the 4th Imperial Civil War. She received extensive training while at Delta, learning a variety of combat and mechanical skills. Her combat training included basic weapons handling and first aid, and her mechanical training covered how to maintain and repair the entire family of ACE combat robots. The final part of her training was Imperial Army Officer School. As commanding officer of the 82nd Mechanized Cavalry Scouts, JJ was in charge of commanding her drones during operations as well as securing and organizing supply transfers to maintain her army.
JJ was regarded as a talented and capable leader by her superiors. She had an innate ability to get into the heads of her enemies, using this to predict their actions with frightening accuracy. JJ relied on surgical application of extraordinary violence, finding the weakest link and hitting it hard. While preferring to stay off the field, JJ would make exceptions to perform battlefield repairs on damaged units, repeatedly risking her life to protect and recover them. These actions alongside her involvement in several key battles of the war earned her multiple commendations and medals. However, like many other solo JANUS 4 products, JJ began exhibiting symptoms of isolation sickness. As these symptoms worsened she was eventually recalled back to Delta to undergo psychological evaluation[3].
JJ returned to Delta broken. She barricaded herself in her room, ripping mounted furniture from the walls and floor. Attempts by staff to remove JJ from her self-imposed isolation were often met with violence. Staff were eventually able to conduct several interviews, none of which evoked any meaningful communication from her. The interviews were cancelled after JJ killed a psychologist and injured two responding orderlies[4]. Following this incident, JJ was officially deemed defective. Initially, she was to be shipped off to Consul Order, like the other defective JANUS 4 products, but a last-minute deal between the Consul and Praetor Honor saw her sent to him instead.
Praetor Honor had JJ shipped off to the royal palace in District 3. Initially her condition was no different than it was at Delta, isolating herself in her room and attacking anyone who dared enter. This behavior persisted for 6 days until the Praetor managed to get through to her, earning not her trust but the absence of immediate doubt. At first, JJ remained guarded around others including the palace staff. She demanded rooms and hallways be vacated whenever she was present. Over time however, JJ grew to tolerate the palace staff who began tending to her every need, both expressed and imposed. Once she became more accustomed to this new life, the Praetor ordered her training to begin.
JJ had arrived in a feral state. Her prior upbringing and military experience taught her to live in a practical manner, which the Praetor did not approve of. As his daughter and representative of the District, JJ was held to a higher standard. She had to learn everything over again. The correct way to eat, how to speak and address others of status, how to dress, even the proper way to wash herself. This behavior did not come naturally to JJ. Mistakes were frequent and quickly began to irritate the Praetor.
At first punishments were almost non-existent. If she broke a plate or spilled something, all the Praetor would ask is for her to clean it up and try again. However, as time passed and mistakes mounted these requests grew more aggressive. Orders followed insults and ended with mockery, later involving humiliation, both public and private. On one occasion where JJ had chosen the incorrect color of dress for an event, the Praetor stood her in front of the house staff and had them critique her. For hours she stood in front of them all, having every minute flaw picked apart in excruciating detail.
His punishments were as meticulous in their planning as they were in execution. Knowing just how far he needed to push her, and how best to do so. His goal was to break her down, then step in as the savior to lift her back up. Interrupting his own cruel punishments with wry consolation and praising her for enduring what she had forced him to do. He was the only source for the approval she had grown so desperately dependent upon. Even his cruelty possessed a comforting warmth to her.
As JJ’s dependency on the Praetor grew and he became more confident in his ability to control her, Praetor Honor began to incorporate weapons training into her schedule. The bulk of her training was in Laido, Kyodo, Kendo, and Judo. As lessons became more physical, so too did the punishments for mistakes. If she dropped her sword, she was beaten; if she missed a target, she could be starved. Even the training itself was a punishment, as JJ and her trainers were forbidden from using practice blades. Each mistake was paid for with blood, and, on one occasion, with part of her tail.
The culmination of her training was JJ’s assignment as commander of the 12th Imperial Siegebreakers Legion, an elite unit of the Imperial Royal Guard, composed of some of the best equipped and trained soldiers in all of the Imperium. Her assignment was met with harsh criticism by many within the unit, as historically their commander had been chosen from within their own ranks. JJ silenced all doubt about her command ability by delivering a swift victory at what remains the deadliest battle of the entire 4th Imperial Civil War, The Battle of Shield-Rock Castle (Tateiwa-jō).
Following her victory, the Praetor would formally proclaim Junko as Crown Princess of District 3 and heir to the Throne of House Honor. On her coronation day JJ was given the name Junko, meaning obedience, sincerity, and purity. Among the many gifts she received on that day was the Praetor's personal HVER shield generator. Easily identifiable by its golden color when activated, the Götter class of HVER shields were possessed only by the Praetors and Consuls of the imperium.
Along with the title of Crown Princess, Junko was named General Chief of Staff of the Imperial Royal Guard, serving as the second-in-command, under Praetor Honor, of the entire Army of District 3. Other duties of the Crown Princess included serving as the public figure and image of the district, hosting foreign dignitaries and other esteemed guests, and, in the event of the death of the Praetor, assuming the role of Empress and leader of District 3.
Today Junko serves as second in command to the leader of District 3, Praetor Honor. She maintains absolute command of the Imperial Siegebreaker Legion and shares command authority over the Imperial Royal Guard with the Praetor. However important her military roles are, they are secondary to her duties as Crown Princess. The Praetor expended considerable resources crafting Junko into the perfect Royal. Her public appearances are critical to the Praetor’s efforts to project their cultural superiority throughout the Imperium.
This all, however convincing, is simply her public persona. Her military command is little more than an efficient use of available resources and an opportunity for training. The Praetor could have easily appointed one of the many other competent or talented military minds from his district to these roles. Junko’s true purpose is to be the bloody right hand of the Praetor. A merciless assassin capable of exercising the Praetor’s will far beyond the district bounds, with a blind loyalty not to the Imperium but to the Praetor and Praetor alone.
Junko wears a mask of quiet nobility. Speaking only when necessary in a calm and distinguished manner, her etiquette carries a refinement that perfectly skirts the line between poise and personability. In public, she conducts herself as if all eyes are constantly on her, careful never to step out of line for even a moment, or risk drawing the ire of the Praetor. This façade, however convincing, is just an act.
Beneath the layers of deception lies a manic and unstable child who will stop at nothing to gain approval, attention, and praise from her father. Willing to move both Heaven and Earth to receive even the slightest acknowledgement, her self-worth is entirely derived from the opinion of her held by the Praetor. Prone to volatile and unpredictable mood swings, it takes every ounce of her incredible self control to maintain her public persona.
Outside the public eye, and safely within the palace walls, Junko appears to behave in a similarly subdued and respectful way. However, her focus shifts from exuding an air of royal pedigree to complete submission to the Praetor. Every Decision, every action, and every word are a frenetically calculated performance meant to show both her loyalty and dedication to the Praetor, as well as a desperate plea for attention, admiration, and acknowledgement.
While this persona is far less forced and exhausting than the first, it is still a meticulously calculated act. These two personalities are nothing more than artificial constructs, manufactured to meet her needs as much as the Praetor’s. In public, she acts for the people, all to portray the District, their culture, and her father in the best possible light. In private, she acts for her father, doing exactly what he says and being exactly as he wishes. On the battlefield, however, Junko is finally able to show her true character.
Junko's true character is that of a hedonistic psychopath with zero regard for human life. Her soldiers, the enemy, her people, are all just numbers to be used, reduced or raised as needed to meet an end. She holds a special resentment for those she sees as her enemies. Their lives were forfeit the moment they began, and their insolence shall be paid for with blood. The label of enemy does not extend only to combatants. Civilians and prisoners alike receive no quarter. Beyond simple cruelty, Junko’s morbid curiosity is also on full display through her actions with both the living and the dead. She enjoys “playing with her food”; needlessly extending battles through careful precision strikes, seeing just how many she can land before her opponent can continue no longer. Even after their death, her curiosity can be sated more still, as her propensity to autopsy the dead[5] provides her with invaluable data and entertainment.
